Cruise Ship Information
Built in Finland in 1996 and originally called just plain Aida, AIDAcara was the very first ship in the fleet of what is now Germany's largest cruise line, and the first ship in the world to offer the innovative "club ship" concept.
 
AIDAcara was built for Deutsche Seetouristik/Arkona Reisen as a Clubschiff (Club Ship), and was launched  under the name AIDA. When P&O Cruises purchased a controlling stake in Arkona Reisen in 1999, they transferred the ship, and it became part of the new AIDA Cruises fleet, and was named AIDAcara, after two of its sister ships entered operation, AIDAvita and AIDAaura.
 
Atmosphere on board  
If you break up with AIDAcara to fascinating destinations, surrounds a very special atmosphere on board. Accompanied by every convenience and familiarity charm you feel at home anywhere in the world. The variety is huge: Whether jogging with sea views, a round of golf or volleyball - your sporting ambitions are no limits. You might also learn in the Diving Station know your new favorite sport? On numerous routes offer a fantastic dive sites! A dip in the pool, a visit to the sauna, massage and beauty treatments - for your well-being is also well catered for. Of course, culinary. In between a strong espresso or enjoy a cocktail and enjoy the evening in the relaxed atmosphere of the Calypso Bar - this makes holiday fun!
 
Several shops are onboard, offering discounted designer goods, gift items and souvenirs.A multitude of shore excursions are offered when the ship is in port to suit every interest.
 
Family with Kids/Teens
A number of activities are offered for kids, beginning at age 3. Extra programs can be expected during school vacations. The restaurants have special menu selections for kids, and part of the pool area is set aside for them
 
Past Passenger Programs
AIDA Cruises does not currently have a past passenger program in place. This is subject to change, so check back with us every now and then.
 
Fitness And Spa 
Spa and fitness facilities in the Body & Soul spa and Fit & Fun fitness center are especially large for a ship of this size, and there's even AIDA Golf, an indoor putting green and golf simulator. Plentiful deck space includes a wrap-around promenade deck and a spacious pool deck that also features a volleyball/basketball court.
 
Food & Dining
AIDAcara restaurants are three: two main – the Calypso and Markt, offering open-seating buffet. The extra-tariff Rossini is a-la-carte choice (waiter service provided).

Entertainment
The theatre -- logically called Das Theater -- is the biggest public area. Others include the huge full-width AIDA Bar and the lively Anytime Disco.
 
Staterooms
Most cabins are standard insides and outsides. Of average size, they're decorated in bright fabrics for a festive touch. There are also a number of suites and balcony cabins, but on this ship the focus is to be out and about and having fun, not to spend a lot of time in a luxurious cabin.
 
Tipping
Most fees and surcharges are included in the cruise fare, however, extra charges apply for the spa and Rossini's. Purchases made in the stores are out-of-pocket.
 
Fellow Passengers
This cruise line is primarily marketed towards the younger, more active German-speaking traveler. As mentioned above, their ships are operated with a very casual "club resort" theme in mind. In fact, AIDA Cruises is so casual that they allow their off-duty crew members to meet and mingle with passengers throughout each cruise. If you don't speak German you're really going to feel out of place, and quite confused, while on an AIDA ship.

Our recommendation
AIDA has the right vessel for you if you enjoy an easy going atmosphere with open dining times, no formal dress code and prefer rather young and active fellow passengers. The contemporary fleet of ships generally appeals to a younger clientele consisting of singles, couples & families.
